What curriculum do we use?
HLA founders have created their own curriculum framework called Explorations. Students ‘explore’ content and concepts through ten high-interest units of study. Age and grade- appropiate skills and concepts are taught through these units of study.
Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Health, and Technology are connected in each unit. A central theme serves as a springboard to teach all skills.
The curriculum design and implementation also integrates the Georgia Standards of Excellence so that children learn what is expected at each grade level and are prepared to come and go from and into the Georgia system of education.
Units of Study
The HLA Explorations units serve as a common thread, weaving together learning across the curriculum. They are designed to move learning from self to surroundings to world, naturally supporting the students' growing awareness and understanding of their place in our world.
