What is HLA?
The Homegrown Learning Academy is a small private elementary school located in Marietta, Georgia. It combines the best of public school, private school, and homeschool educational settings. Its teachers have the knowledge, experience, training, and certifications of public school teachers. Its setting is small and cozy, and, as a private school, it is free from the constraints and requirements of the public system. It provides homeschool educational benefits through 1:1 personalized instruction for its students, but offers the benefits of learning within a community of learners.
HLA's mission is to bring learning back to kids by viewing students as individuals and focusing on their goals and potential rather than data and test scores. We aim to create an environment that inspires lasting learning by cultivating a love of learning, and developing the habits of lifelong learners.

HLA in the News
Michelle and Georgette met in 1990 when their husbands thought their slightly-obsessed-with-teaching wives would hit it off! They became fast friends, spending many hours exchanging classroom stories or chatting about how to better serve their students.
Over the years, their friendship grew deeper, as did their shared desire to teach in an environment that truly and completely had the kids at heart. Both experienced the changes that have come about with decades of educational reform, and both felt that they no longer fit the public school system; or, rather the system didn't fit them and their views of meeting the needs of children.
And so, the idea for Homegrown Learning Academy was born. In recent years, Georgette and Michelle have spent countless hours discussing their 'perfect world' idea of what education SHOULD look like for children. They are thrilled beyond words to be putting their dreams of creating such a place to work, working with children to achieve their dreams.
